3663 SCOOPS TOP GREEN ACCOLADE
The company is ranked in the top 10 list for big companies with a medium impact on the environment and is the only national foodservice distributor in the top 50. All entrants had to complete a two-stage evaluation upon entry to the awards. Apart from standard motivations and support material presented to the judging panel, the company also had to complete a lengthy employee evaluation. “The award is a testament to the work of each individual in 3663,” said Des Bell, marketing director of 3663. “The award is even more significant to us given that it was based on a dual evaluation, not only by the judges but also our employees.” The judges considered each company’s environmental management systems, public reporting, carbon footprint reduction, green supplier base, green training, energy consumption, green energy use and recycling practises as part of the overall evaluation. It is not the first time that the company has received national recognition for its commitment to the environment – 3663 has maintained ISO14001 international standard for environmental management since 2003. 3663 is also leading the way for the foodservice sector in terms of using recycled vegetable oil for biodiesel as well as reducing road miles through computerised route mapping and consolidated deliveries. “Over the past decade a number of initiatives have been put in place but it is down to every member of the organisation to make it work whether on a large or more modest scale. We have car sharing in place at a number of depots, rainwater is collected to wash vehicles and waste is recycled at all facilities,” said Des Bell. 3663 is also shortlisted for:
