To celebrate the opening (4th September 2003) 170 balloons were released, representing the 170 staff at the depot. For every one returned, 3663 will donate £5 to its charity of the year, Hospitality Action. The Langley Mill depot is in a prime location and has purpose -built facilities, allowing for 40% increase in capacity to cope with the demand 3663 sees building for this hub, serving the Midlands and North. 3663's Nottingham depot has been home to the team responsible for the company's award-winning green stance for more than a decade, so it was only fitting that the new depot should incorporate more than 20 environmentally-friendly features. It is built on a brownfield site and has a wide planting strip to enhance landscaping, which will be maintained by 3633 staff. Warehouses have energy efficient lighting and the depot has a power factor correction system that improves energy efficiency to 97%. The depot also has a vehicle wash, which has an 85% recycle system complete with biological filtration preventing water contamination. At the official opening, a symbolic green ribbon was cut and a tree was planted to represent the 3663 depot's future growth and the benefits it will bring to customers in the Midlands and North. Fred Barnes, chief executive for 3663 said: "For 3663, this is a major investment in infrastructure and customer service. For the team, it has been a back- breaking exercise - the new depot was up and running in just three days. Astonishingly, they went on to achieve record-breaking sales the week of the move." The new multi-temperature depot re-enforces 3663's position as the leading one-stop shop for ambient, chilled and frozen foods.
