STEPS TO REDUCE SALT
As part of our Positive Steps towards a healthier future campaign, 3663 has been reducing salt levels right across our Own Brand range, and continually monitoring our product ranges and their nutritional contents to comply with guidelines and standards.
We have reduced salt levels in approximately 300 own brand products without comprising on eating quality or product safety. Marketing literature and clear packaging with nutritional breakdowns display these changes and refer to specific levels of fat and sugar.
What else can Caterers do to reduce salt?
Here are some guidelines from our Advice Centre:
- order products that indicate Low or Reduced salt, particularly with convenience and pre-prepared foods which often have a higher salt content
- use salt alternatives when preparing your menu, for example, Lo Salt™ or Sol™.
- reduction cooking methods affect the amount of salt in food in the final dish, sauces should be reduced first and then seasoned.
- use alternative flavouring such as lemon or lime juice, herbs, spices, onions and peppers.
- use salt sparingly in food preparation and allow the customer to add extra if required.
- provide low sodium alternatives at the table for those who wish to reduce their salt intake.
