Whether you are a small business or large, a manufacturer, caterer, licensee or a public servant putting sustainability into practice can be difficult. Here are our top 5 hints and tips from 3663’s own experience to get you started…
Get your staff involved and excited:
They are key to making changes, contributing ideas and getting the communication right; you may find some team members are passionate about sustainability and would make great co-ordinators. Valuing and developing your staff is also key to providing a better service to your customers and for managing business performance.
Offer your customers sustainable products:
Many people are becoming concerned about the provenance, ethical and sustainable credentials of what they buy and there are a wide range of options now to choose from.
Set up a plan, agree some goals, audit and measure your progress:
Putting sustainability into practice can be a long-term project, so it’s important to recognise successes and feedback to your teams as you go along.
Look at your waste and energy efficiency:
Key areas to target are reducing road miles through fewer deliveries, putting in place recycling initiatives, using more energy efficient equipment and vehicles, encouraging staff to turn off ovens etc, and purchasing environmentally friendly materials.
Help and Advice:
There are organisations and websites around that provide help and advice, often for free. Check out the Carbon Trust, Envirowise, Hospitable Climates, british-accreditation.co.uk, and The Government’s ECA scheme which outlines potential tax benefits on green technology you can use. |
